Housing Assignments
The primary method for making a housing assignment is the Traditional Housing Assignment Process. This method should always be used by post, except in extenuating circumstances. In those instances, ATLAS Housing provides a few other methods, as described below, for making a housing assignment.
1. The Traditional Housing Assignment Process
The traditional method for making a housing assignment begins when GSO receives official confirmation of a incoming officer's assignment to Post via the TMONE Cable.
Once the official assignment has been made, GSO will take the following steps:
- Add the incoming officer to ATLAS Housing
- Send the Housing Questionnaire to the the incoming officer
- GSO reviews the completed Housing Questionnaire (confirm all requested information is clear and complete)
- Approve the Housing Questionnaire
- Make recommendations to the IAHB
- IAHB votes to approve recommended housing assignment
NOTE: The completion of the Housing Questionnaire is critical in collecting key information to calculate the best residence for your incoming officer, using the application's built-in algorithms.
If for any reason your incoming officer has a change in family circumstances reflected on his/her orders-- for example the birth of a new child--you may edit the officer's information by selecting Edit Household on his/her profile.
2. The Incoming Officer is Unable to Complete the Housing Questionnaire Themselves
Some officers may not be able to complete their Housing Questionnaire. Fortunately, ATLAS Housing provides the opportunity to complete the Housing Questionnaire on their behalf, if approved by the incoming officer. To do this:- Add the incoming officer as a New Occupant in ATLAS Housing.
- From the Occupants Menu, click on Incoming Occupants. Locate the just-added occupant and click on the ellipses next to his/her name.
- Select Skip Questionnaire. This will take you to the Housing Questionnaire of the incoming officer, and you will be able to fill out the Housing Questionnaire on his/her behalf.
- Follow the steps in the Traditional Housing Assignment process, as explained above.
- NOTE: The Edit Household option is enabled if future changes are required.
3. The Housing Questionnaire and Housing Assignment Have Already Been Completed
There are some situations where the Housing Questionnaire has already been completed by the incoming officer via other means and the housing assignment has already been decided. For this situation, you will use the Directly Assign option that you may find as follows:- Add the incoming officer as a New Occupant in ATLAS Housing.
- From the Occupants Menu, click on Incoming Occupants. Locate the just-added occupant and click on the ellipses next to his/her name.
- Select Directly Assign. You will be redirected to a list of available residences for assignment. Select the residence that has already been approved.
- NOTE: The Edit Household option is enabled if future changes are required.
4. Other Scenarios
You may have other scenarios in the Housing Assignment process:- Appeals
- Assigning housing to TDYers
- 90 Day Vacancy rule
- Curtailments
- Eminent arrivals that don't fit your Housing Pool
- Available housing does not fall within the housing size allotment of the rank and family size of the incoming officer
For these types of situations, you will assign a residence based on the vacant housing available.
From the Residences Menu, click on Housing Pool and do a quick vacancy search, using the arrival date of the officer, the 90 Day Vacancy rule, etc.
Once a housing option has been determined, click on the arrow on the right side of the screen to see the Residence's Profile.
Once in the Residence's Profile, click History and then Add Assignment. Select the incoming officer to be assigned to the residence, the tour dates, and then Save.
NOTE: The Edit Household option is enabled if future changes are required.
