Introduction
As part of recent updates, the process of adding and managing positions in ATLAS Workflows is now solely handled by ATLAS Directory. This article explains the change and provides guidance on how to manage positions moving forward.
What's Changed?
Previously, positions could be added and managed directly within ATLAS Workflows. However, to centralize position management and streamline processes, ATLAS Directory is now the sole platform for handling all position-related tasks.
Moving forward, all changes to position information must be made directly in ATLAS Directory, rather than in ATLAS Workflows. The functionality to add and manage positions in ATLAS Workflows has been removed. This ensures that all position data is managed in one place and remains consistent across applications.
Why This Change?
This transition aims to:
- Centralize position management: By making ATLAS Directory the single source of truth for position information, we eliminate discrepancies and confusion between the applications.
- Streamline processes: All position updates can now be made in one place, reducing the need to navigate between ATLAS Directory and ATLAS Workflows.
- Improve consistency: Synchronizing position data ensures that both the ATLAS Directory and ATLAS Workflows are aligned and up-to-date.

Synchronizing Positions with ATLAS Workflows
If you need to ensure that changes made in the ATLAS Directory are reflected in ATLAS Workflows, the Directory Administrator can use the Sync with Workflows button available on the Manage Current Positions page in ATLAS Directory. This will update the position information in ATLAS Workflows with any recent changes made in the ATLAS Directory.
What if a Post or Mission does not have an ATLAS Directory?
For domestic offices, ADG has implemented an additional flag in the System Admin Post or Office setup that allows ADG or the System Admin to turn on position management by Post/Office. By default, this flag is set to False, but it can be set to True for offices that need to manage their positions and do not have an instance of ATLAS Directory. This feature ensures flexibility for those who require additional control over position management within their specific office environment.
